After what seems like an eternity without a game the Spiders return to league action on Saturday afternoon as Albion Rovers make the short journey from Coatbridge to Hampden. Mark Roberts’ squad will be looking to right the wrongs of the disappointing 3-0 defeat away to Cove Rangers two weeks ago having had an extended period to digest the result. On the other hand, Kevin Harper’s men will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce, on the back of a 2-1 home win over bottom side Stirling Albion in their last outing.

Ahead of the Hampden clash the club media team caught up with the gaffer to get his thoughts.

Roberts said: “Saturday is a game that we’re looking forward to and it’s the first of two important home games in a row. We know the importance of winning our home games if we are to have the type of season that we desire. We’ve taken two points from six at home so far and not conceded a goal, whilst that isn’t terrible, we know that we need to turn these draws into wins.

“We’ve had a fortnight since our last game and we’ve used that to allow the players some time off, something which I always appreciated as a player myself. It’s been almost non-stop since mid-June so I’m hoping some of the guys come back re-charged and ready to go.

“We expect it to be yet another very tough challenge for us, Rovers have had a decent start to the season and go into the game on the back of a victory two weeks ago. They’ll be looking to build on that whilst we’ll be looking to get a result that is much improved than that at Cove a fortnight ago.

“Unfortunately, we go into the game with a number of injuries to content with, notably Lewis Magee who looks to have picked up a serious injury at training on Thursday night. We don’t know the extent of it at this early stage but it doesn’t look good and that’s very disappointing for both the player and ourselves given the start he has made to the season. There are also another couple of players carrying niggling injuries which will need to be assessed tomorrow before we make a final call on them.

“On the plus side the two week break has allowed us to get strikers Kieran Moore and Alfredo Agymen back to fitness and they’ll be added to the squad for Saturday. Both are welcome additions.

“What I would say is that the injuries we are carrying will present chances for others to come in and stake their claim for a regular starting space. We assembled a strong squad at the start of the campaign, with two players for every position, for this very reason and we just need to get on with things.”
