The Spiders are on the road this weekend with the famous Glebe Park being the destination as we take on Barry Smith’s Brechin City side. Brechin currently sit second bottom of the league with no points from their opening two matches following relegation from League One last season but there was a cautious word of warning from Mark Roberts when he spoke to the club media team on the eve of the match.

Previewing the tie Roberts said: “We’re very much looking forward to the game as we look to build on the positive start we’ve made to the season. There was a real frustration last week only to have taken a point from a game that we dominated, and we’ll be looking to get rid of that frustration tomorrow.

“We’ve spoke to the players all week of the importance of being more clinical in front of goal and turning those chances into goals. It shows how far we’ve come in a short space of time that we were frustrated by taking only a point courtesy of a last-minute equaliser and that’s the mentality we want to see in the players.

“We know every single game this season will be a difficult one, but we are confident in our ability to do well. We’ve looked pretty solid defensively so far, with the exception of the poor goal we lost last week, and we know if we can maintain that, and take more chances at the other end, we’ll achieve our ambition of putting as many points as possible on the board during the first period of the season.

“We do however know that we’ll need to work extremely hard if we are to get anything from Saturday’s game. Brechin’s poor start to the season has been well documented but they will still harbour ambitions of getting out this league at the earliest possible opportunity and they’ll be looking to start that with three points on Saturday.

On the injury front the gaffer confirmed that he has no fresh concerns to deal with ahead of the match. Frontman Alfredo Agyeman remains a major doubt, having not trained for the last two weeks however will be given every chance to make the bench courtesy of a late fitness test. The good news from the gaffer was that no matter what happens, the striker should be available for selection for next Saturday’s game at home to Elgin.

Stats Life

The opposition: Brechin City will be hoping for a change in fortunes after failing to win a game so far this season. Their best result has been a one each draw with Angus rivals Montrose in the Betfred Cup group stages. Barry Smith had a job rebuilding the squad after back to back relegations, resulting in the loss of many first team players during the summer. Smith will be hoping to see the best of the new players in the coming games. Central defender Scott Reekie is one to watch after scoring a hat trick during their midweek game against Elgin City.
