Just 77 days have passed since the Spiders were last in competitive action and despite it being a relatively short period of time; it has seen a number of changes at Lesser Hampden. The loss of no fewer than seven or eight first team regulars was to be expected by many but that has been offset by 11 new faces being added to the first team squad, a number which is likely to continue to rise over the coming weeks.

As we prepare to get season 2018/19 underway with an tricky away tie against Dumbarton in the Betfred Cup, it’s safe to assume that the squad for tonight’s match will be unrecognisable to that which finished last season but despite the turnover in the playing squad there has been a cautious optimism emanating from the squad through pre-season so far.

For those who have not kept fully up to date with the transfer dealings over the summer we have welcomed the following new players to the squad;

Jordan Hart (Goalkeeper)
Jack Dunlop (Goalkeeper)
Dominic McLaren (Defender)
Jamie McKernon (Midfielder)
Kurtis Robers (Midfielder)
Dean Kindlan (Midfielder)
Daniel Kindlan (Forward)
Josh Peters (Forward)
Adam Martin (Forward)
Brendan Sharpe (Forward)
Smart Osadolor (Forward)

Whilst some of the new signings will be more familiar than others, with a number of them having come up against the us at previous clubs, a number have made the jump from the junior ranks and will be keen to prove themselves at this level. The club have also retained the services of a number of players from last season and they are;

Scott Gibson; Gerry McLauchlan, Cammy Foy, Daniel Nimmo, Ciaran Summers, Lewis Magee, Ali Miller, Calvin McGrory, Ewan MacPherson and Billy Mortimer.

It goes without saying that tonight’s cup tie kick starts what will be an important season for the club as we look to bounce back from a hard and disappointing campaign last season but the mood amongst the camp on the eve of the Dumbarton clash is positive and the gaffer is keen to get going. You can hear what Gus had to say about how pre season has gone and his going into the Dumbarton match here;
