A first half hat trick by Morton’s Jon Scullion won all three points for Morton at Lesser Hampden on Wednesday night.

Queen’s started the game well, pressing forward and taking control of the game.  The first 15 minutes they dominated play and kept Morton pinned back in their half.  Unfortunately as with games of late, goal scoring opportunities were somewhat lacking.

In the 26th minute Morton took the lead somewhat against the run of play.  A long ball was played diagonally left to right.  Morton’s Jon Scullion picked the ball up, weaved his way into the Queen’s box and fired a low shot across Marc Waters into the far corner of the net.

Less than 60 seconds later that same man made it 2-0 to Morton. A cross from the right was headed by Scullion past the keeper into the net. Poor marking by the Spiders.

In the 43rd minute Scullion completed his treble with a well struck free kick 35 yards out.

Half time: Queen’s Park 0 Morton 3

Queen’s attempted to force their way back into the game in the first 15 minutes of the second half.  They had good movement and passing in the middle of the park but, as before, the final ball was either inaccurately delivered or the first touch of the forwards were poor.  Either way no shots on the Morton goal.

The rest of the second half continued withQueen’s attempting to claw back a goal and Morton defending resolutely.
