The Spiders make the short journey to Coatbridge on Saturday to take on second bottom Albion Rovers. On the back of huge victories over Queen of the South and Edinburgh City over the last fortnight, confidence is high in the Queen’s camp and that was boosted again midweek with the news of the Manager and Player of the Month awards picked up by Mark and Salim respectively.

Ahead of the match the club media team caught up with the gaffer and commenting firstly on the awards, he said: “I’m delighted for Sal, it was a well-deserved award and recognition of how good he has been recently. We’ve laid down a challenge now to Sal to kick on from the great month that he had an continue producing the goods and it’s a challenge that he is more than capable of taking on. I have the players to thank for my award because without them producing results week in week out I don’t get the award, so the credit lies with them.”

Looking ahead to the Rovers game Mark said: “It goes without saying that we need to keep doing what we’ve been doing in recent weeks as it’s been the key to our success. The performances levels and the commitment from the players has been excellent and if we can continue applying ourselves like that in games, we’ll win more than we’ll lose.

“It’s been pleasing to have been able to putting a gap between ourselves and the sides at the bottom end of the table and that allows us to have a positive outlook in terms of looking at those above us, Annan and Cowdenbeath, and winning the points needed to catch them. That will be no easy achievement but it’s important that remains our focus instead of worrying about results below us, I believe doing the latter, will result in having a negative attitude.

“We’ve shown against Queen of the South and Edinburgh City, particularly in the second half of both matches, that we are able to limit good attacking teams to very few chances and that’s been a huge factor in our successes. If we can do the same to teams around us in the table then there’s no reason that we will not continue to win games.

“Going forward we have looked a real threat as well and I’m delighted that Sal is now firing on all cylinders and has come through a sticky patch earlier in the season, to now be looking every bit the centre forward that we need. His confidence is high, and he has become a real focal point for the team and that’s something which we all hope will continue on Saturday.

On the squad front Mark confirmed that his side will be bolstered by the return of David Galt from injury and Ryan Finnie from suspension. Midfielder Calvin McGrory remains side-lined as he continues his battle back to full fitness.
